The effect of exercise on internet addiction and academic progress (case study: second high school students of Lordegan city)

Abstract
Background: In recent years, with the world's access to the Internet, the most important scientific and entertainment tool, it has caused an increasing dependence on the Internet among students. Exercise is one of the factors that play a significant role in staying away from the Internet, it strengthens the cognitive performance of students.
Purpose: This research was practical in terms of purpose, and in terms of the nature of the method, it was a survey type that was implemented in the field.
Methodology: The statistical population of this research was the second high school students of Lordegan city (N: 3000), whose number (N: 350) was selected using Cochran's formula and the questionnaires were randomly distributed among them. In this research, three researcher-made sports questionnaires, Young's Internet addiction (cited by Bahri, 2013) and Pham and Taylor's (1992) academic progress were used. The reliability of the questionnaire was calculated in a preliminary study with 30 subjects and Cronbach's alpha was 0.93. It was analyzed using SPSS-23 software and Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression statistical methods.
The results showed that with the increase in sports participation with a mean (standard deviation) (2.9) of 101.4, the level of Internet addiction (0.6) 2.2 among students decreased (p<0.05) and sports activity (field -group and individual) predicting the academic progress of students.
Conclusion: The study showed that with increasing participation in sports activities, the amount of internet addiction of students decreased and it has a positive effect on their academic progress.And it can play the most important tool in preventing students from this very ineffective behavior.
