Abstract
The current research was conducted with the aim of understanding the process of the
influence of political authority on sports (case study: the sports convoy sent to the
2121 Japan Olympics and Paralympics). The research is quantitative-qualitative in
terms of practical purpose and in terms of data collection method. In the qualitative
part, the grounded theory method of Charms type was used, and in the quantitative
part, the partial least squares method was used. The tool was used in the qualitative
part of the structured interview and in the quantitative part of the researcher's
questionnaire. The formal and content fluency of the questionnaire was confirmed
by the experts and the reliability of the questionnaire was 1887. The statistical
population of the qualitative part is 26 people, which has reached theoretical
saturation with targeted sampling. The statistical population in the quantitative part
is the number of 271 people sent to the 2121 Olympic and Paralympic Games, 155
people were calculated based on Morgan's table and they were tested by cluster
sampling method. MAXQD software was used to analyze the findings of the
quantitative part, and for the quantitative part Smart pls software was used. The
research findings from the qualitative part showed that 77 categories were obtained
in the initial coding and in the centralized coding stage, 4 categories for sports and
3 categories for political authority were obtained from the interviews. The results of
the hypothesis test showed that Iran's political authority has influenced the Olympic
sports through the components of legitimacy, alignment, and power. Also, in
explaining the existing conditions, the type of authority that dominates sports can be
considered as traditional authority.
