Abstract
Introduction
Basketball is one of the most popular sports among young people. In anaerobic activities such as basketball, increasing anaerobic power and capacity is one of the components of success and improving the competitive performance of players. Several field tests are used to evaluate the strength of athletes, the most important of which is in accordance with the nature of basketball; Anaerobic power test for basketball (BAST) and Anaerobic power test in repeated runs (RAST), the purpose of this research is to determine the correlation between these two anaerobic power tests in basketball players in the youth league of the country.
Methods
The subjects of this research, which included 14 young elite players with a body mass index (BMI: 19.8 ± 1.89), average age (16.6 ± 0.51) and body weight = 65.68 ± 8.40, were tested and the maximum power, average power, minimum power and their fatigue index was measured using two basketball specific anaerobic power tests (BAST) and RAST test. After ensuring the normality of the statistical variables, Pearson's method was used to calculate the correlation of the data of the two tests. The data analysis technique used in this research was done using SPSS 26 software.
Results
The obtained results showed that there is a significant correlation between maximum power, average power and minimum power of two tests (RAST) and (BAST) (r=0.797 p=0.006, r=0.668 p=0.035, r=0.707 p=0.022) and on the other hand, no significant correlation was observed between the fatigue index measured with these two tests, as in similar studies (r=0.014, p=0.969).
Conclusions
basketball-specific anaerobic power test (BAST) is a suitable test for evaluating the anaerobic capacity of elite youth basketball players.
