Abstract
Abstract
Introduction and purpose: Autism spectrum disorder is a neurological disorder that is identified early in the life of autistic children and no definitive treatment has been found for it. There are many methods for teaching and rehabilitating children on the autism spectrum. Physical and sports activity is a suitable and low-cost method to help improve the cognitive and motor functions of children with autism spectrum. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of 8 weeks of rhythmic aerobic training with music on stereotyped behaviors and the development of gross skills in children with autism spectrum disorder. Method: The method of this research was semi-experimental with pre-test and post-test with a control group. The research participants were all autistic students of Hamedan city in the academic year 1401-1402. 20 female students between 10 and 12 years old with an average age of 11.34 voluntarily participated in this study. First, all participants performed the stereotyped behavior questionnaire of the autism spectrum of Gars and the Ollrich motor development test as a pre-test. Then, the participants of the experimental group participated in aerobic exercises with music for 3 one-hour sessions per week for 8 weeks. At the end, all participants participated in the post-test of gross motor function and stereotyped behavior of the autism spectrum. Results: The results showed improvement in the performance of stereotyped behaviors of autistic children and tests of motor development spectrum. Conclusion: Therefore, it is suggested that autistic children participate in aerobic exercise programs with music in order to use its benefits to improve movement performance and stereotyped behavior of the autism spectrum.
