Abstract
The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of neuromuscular exercises on the level of pain, functional disability and function of women with PFPS. In order to conduct this semi-experimental study, 24 female athletes with PFPS from Isfahan city were selected as available and were randomly divided into two control groups (12 people) and training groups (12 people). In this study, people with patellofemoral pain syndrome were determined using Clark's diagnostic test. Tests related to function (single-leg triple hopping test and single-leg cross triple hopping test) were evaluated. After that, the pain was determined using the pain and functional disability questionnaire of the subjects with the Functional Disability Questionnaire (WOMAC). After evaluating the variables, the subjects of the experimental group did 8 weeks (3 sessions per week and each session was 45 minutes) and the control group did their daily activities during this period. After the end of the training period, the same tests related to before the training were re-evaluated. Checking the normality of the data in two groups was done by the Shapiro-Wilk test, and if the data were normal, the analysis of covariance and correlated T tests were used to compare the research factors between the control and experimental groups. Also, in non-normal conditions, Wilcoxon and U-Man-Whitney tests were used to check the differences. All the above analyzes were done using SPSS version 24 software. The results of the research showed the effect of exercise on reducing pain (p=0.002), functional disability (p=0.001), single-leg triple hopping test (p=0.001) and single-leg cross triple hopping test (p=0.001). Also, the results of inter-group comparison have shown the existence of differences between the two control and training groups in the investigated variables (p=0.001). In general, the results of this research show the effect of neuromuscular exercises on reducing pain and functional disability, as well as improving the function of female athletes with patellofemoral pain syndrome.
