Abstract
Professional sports and the path to reaching the elite level for athletes can be characterized as demanding. Football stands out as one of the most globally celebrated sports, with Fans eagerly participating in matches of their favorite teams, offering unwavering support and admiration. A pivotal phase in the progression of young football players toward elite status involves the transition from youth level to the professional level.
This study aims to identify environmental factors influencing the transition of football players from amateur level to professional level in Iran. The research employed a qualitative approach based on foundation data theorizing, with Data analysis conducted using Glazer (1992) method. The study encompassed a divers population of football experts including (professional coaches, football specialists, sports managers of the football federation, representatives from sports and youth departments, professional clubs and academies, as well as sports management professors).
Sampling was purposeful way, theoretical saturation was achieved through conducting 31 interviews.The initial data collection involved an extensive review of books, articles, documents and internet sources at library. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews were conducted via phone calls and virtual platforms, considering the prevailing COVID-19 situation. Validity and reliability were assessed using acceptability, transferability, and confirmability measures.
The data analysis yielded 240 primary codes, wich, through repetitive occurrences and open coding, were condensed into 95 primary independent codes. These were further categorized into 15 sub-categories and 4 main categories-family, cultural-social, infrastructure and economic-welfare factors-highlighting the environmental factors influencing football players transition from amateur level to the professional level in Iran.
