Abstract
Abstract:
Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the most common inflammatory disorders afflicting joints in elderly women. Rheumatoid arthritis causes pain, inflammation, and stiffness of joints. The purpose of this study is to review the effect of therapeutic mechanisms on the motor performance of elderly women with chronic rheumatism using mechanotherapy.
Method: 24 elderly women, ranging in age from 65-75 years old, were evaluated for rheumatoid arthritis. These women were selected based on different criteria per referral form specialists. Selected individuals were randomly split into two different groups, 12 people were placed into a test group and the remaining 12 in a control group. The test group performed resistance exercises for eight weeks and their performance was assessed before and after an eight-week exercise program in order to evaluate their flexibility performance in sitting and reaching benchmarks. Compiled data was analyzed for covariable dependence using standard statistical method analysis.
Results: Covariance analysis has shown that the test group got significantly better scores compared to the control group in motor function (p=0.004).
Conclusion: This research has indicated a significant improvement on performance and flexibility of motor functions with only eight weeks of mechanotherapy excises. Therefore, this style of exercise can help to improve motor performance in arthritic individuals and can be recommended to whoever has chronic rheumatism.
