Abstract
Background: Forward head abnormalities and chronic neck pain are among the complications commonly caused by muscle imbalances and are very common in different users due to poor physical status when working with computers or Smartphones.
Purpose: the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the use of Smartphones with Forward head abnormalities and chronic neck pain in boy aged 15 to 18 years.
Methods: For this purpose, 60 boy students aged 15 to 18 years old in the city of Shahin Dezh who were eligible to enter the study were selected as available samples. Subsequently, after completing the written consent form, a subscriber information questionnaire containing their demographic information and Smartphone usage questionnaire was completed. Subjects were evaluated for Forward head abnormalities and chronic neck pain, respectively, from a Japanese side view camera (AutoCAD software) and a visual analog scale. For statistical analysis, Pearson correlation, regression and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test were used for normalization of data.
Results: There was a significant correlation between the use of Smartphones with Forward head abnormalities and chronic neck pain in boys aged 15 to 18 years (P <0.001). Also, there was a significant relationship between Forward head abnormalities and chronic neck pain in these subjects (P <0.001).
Discussion and Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it has been concluded that being in bad situations, including bad positioning of the neck when using Smartphones for a long time, can cause abnormalities such as head forwards and This abnormality can exacerbate musculoskeletal pain, especially in the neck area of the users of this device.
