Abstract
Abstract:
Background and Purpose: Insulin resistance is the most important cause of diabetes. The main mechanisms causing insulin resistance are down-regulation of insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) and decreased insulin signaling due to excessive free fatty acids in the circulation. Many previous studies on human and animal samples showed that physical activities with and without diet modification improve HOMA-IR as well as other pathogenic factors that cause some diseases such as diabetes, hyperglycemia and obesity.
Methodology: In this research, 32 Wistar male rats with an approximate age of 4 weeks and an average weight of 139.8±4.9 grams were randomly selected as research samples. Animals on a high-fat diet for 4 weeks cause insulin resistance and STZ injection causes beta-cell dysfunction and type 2 diabetes. Sports intervention for the training group was carried out for 8 weeks, 5 sessions per week. According to the research protocol, during the period of negative energy balance, 25% of the average daily energy intake is deducted. This research has been approved by the Ethics Committee of the Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of Iran with the ethics code IR.SSRI.REC.1401.1358.
Results: Based on the results of one-way analysis of variance, the difference in HOMA-IR between the healthy control group and the diabetic control group with the diabetic food restriction and aerobic exercise diabetic groups (P≤0.05) was significant.
Conclusion: We found that calorie restriction has a greater effect on HOMA_IR. But the difference with aerobic exercise group was not significant. As a result, aerobic exercise along with caloric restriction leads to a decrease in insulin resistance and probably improves diabetics.
