Abstract
.Background: The development of technology in advanced societies has led the lifestyle towards inactivity and the increase of non-communicable diseases.
purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate motivational factors and perceived benefits and obstacles towards regular physical activities among students of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences.
Materials and methods: The present study is cross-sectional (descriptive-analytic) and includes 312 students of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences. Sampling was done in a systematic way. In order to collect information, the motivation to participate in sports activities questionnaire (PMQ) and the Exercise Benefits/Barriers Scale questionnaire were used, and Spss software version 26 was used to analyze the data.
Results: The results showed that the average score of motivation to participate in physical activity is 59.63±7.62 and the average score of perceived benefits and obstacles of sports activity is 92.02±23.85. Also, the average score of the motivation to participate in physical activity and the average score of perceived benefits and obstacles of physical activity had a significant difference based on gender. Thus, the male gender had higher average scores in both variables. According to the results, the average score of the motivation to participate in physical activity and the average score of the perceived benefits and obstacles of sports activity based on marital status did not have a significant difference. According to the findings of the research, the average score of the motivation to participate in physical activity and the average score of its perceived benefits and obstacles had a significant difference based on the duration of physical activity. So, the longer the duration of the activity, the higher the average scores. The average score of the motivation to participate in physical activity and the score of perceived Benefits and obstacles of physical sports had a non-significant positive correlation. The average duration of regular physical activity was calculated as 19.24±7.08 minutes
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that perceived Benefits and obstacles as well as motivation play an effective role in physical activity in students.
