Abstract
Abstract
Objective: Relying on the findings of epidemiological studies, it is possible to access accurate information of important indicators. The overall purpose of this study was to investigate the epidemiology of sports injuries in volleyball in girl athletes aged 11-16 years.
Materials and Methods: This research was descriptive and was a cross-sectional and applied study. Due to the nature of the subject, the research method is causal after occurrence. The statistical population of the present study included all 11-16 girl volleyball players in Abadeh city from Fars province, who were selected from among those who voluntarily and with informed consent intend to participate in the study (N=200). In this study, a researcher-made injury registration form was used and individuals were asked to record all injuries they had experienced during competitions and training in the past year in this form.
Results: In general, the results of the study showed that the prevalence of sports injuries was high among adolescent and young girl volleyball athletes (incidence rate of 13.41 injuries). Also, the most common mechanism of injury has been reported as jumping and landing during spike, defense and service (28.15%). The type of dislocation and semi-dislocation injury (22.5%) was the most common type and the severity of the injury was more than the mild type (30.7%). Also, most of the injuries that occurred were in the lower limbs (38.9%) and in the ankle and knee joints, and the percentage of injuries occurred in training was higher than in competitions.
Conclusion: Given the results and the importance of the issue, the prevention of injuries to minimize injuries should be given serious attention. Therefore, coaches, athletes and other people involved in volleyball should work to reduce the rate of injury, which requires attention to epidemiological studies and sports injury prevention programs.
