Study of the Relationship Between the Score of the Gymnastics Functional Measurement Tools and the Incidence of Injuries in Gymnasts

Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: The Gymnastics Functional Measurement Tool is a set of 10 tests that evaluates the physical fitness of gymnasts. The scoring system is standardized and approved at different competitive levels. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the total score in the Gymnastics Functional Measurement Tool can identify male gymnasts who are at risk of injury.
Methods:
The current research is a prospective study and was conducted using a field design and on male gymnasts aged 8 to 18 from Guilan and Qazvin provinces who were selected non-randomly as available samples. The statistical sample of the research included 40 male gymnasts. The mean and standard deviation of the subjects' age, height, weight, and activity history were as follows (age: 12.45, 2.60), (height: 1.48, 0.18), (weight:40.90, 13.71) and (activity history: 5,75, 2,41). In the beginning, the Gymnastics Functional Measurement Test was done for the gymnasts, and then the researcher coordinated with the coaches of the participating teams and through the Norwegian Oslo Injury Registration Questionnaire, which is used to measure and record sports injuries during training and competitions. It is used for six months and registered every month. Statistical analysis of the raw data obtained from the measurements was done by SPSS version 23 software and the eta correlation coefficient statistical method was used at a significance level equal to or less than 0.05.
Results: The results of the correlation coefficient tests show that there is a significant negative relationship between the scores of the Gymnastics Functional Measurement Test and the incidence rate of sports injuries in the upper limbs (0.039) in gymnasts, but in the lower limbs (0.616). and trunk (0.938) there is no significant relationship.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that there may be a relationship between the score of the Gymnastics Functional Measurement Tool and the incidence of sports injuries, therefore, the scores of the functional measurement tests provide a suitable prevention model for injuries and disorders of the upper limbs to the coaches and therapists.
