The role of watching karate competitions in attracting and participating novices and motivating karatekas

Abstract
Background: Karate is one of the most popular martial arts around the world. The benefits of this sport include increased self-confidence, body strengthening, mental focus, improved flexibility, and self-defense capabilities. Participation in this sport creates self-discipline and increases personal motivation as well as because in control styles Karate is much less likely to be injured than other martial arts so parents and students have a lot of interest in this sport.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of watching karate matches in attracting and participating novices and motivating karatekas.
Methodology: For this purpose, 250 spectators were selected randomly according to Morgan's table from950 spectators in the Shotokan-style championship held in 2017-2018. Data collection was done by a researcher-made questionnaire of 22 questions whose content validity was determined by 8 instructors of physical education and sports sciences Thoroughly mastered the sport of karate was reviewed and approved. To analyze the data, the one-sample t-test was used at the significance(p≤0.05) level.
Results: According to the results, the most important motivation for the spectators to attend the competitions was the attraction and excitement of karate competitions (Kata and Kumite). Also, there was a significant relationship between the presence of spectators at the venue of the competition and the attraction and participation of novices in karate classes. Watching karate matches by karatekas significantly motivated them to continue karate sport.
Conclusion: According to the results of the research, watching karate tournaments has a positive effect on the attraction of karate sports and attracts novices to this sport. It is also suggested that karate matches be broadcast from the national media to expand the sport.
