Evaluation and analysis of the performance of the Iranian sports caravan in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou

Abstract
The 21st century is called the "Asian century". The great rise of Asian countries to conquer the economic markets and play major roles in the social and political fields by East and Southeast Asian countries as well as several Arab countries has caused the role of Asian countries to appear more and more in the world. Sports has also played a major role in this issue. The effort of Asian countries to succeed and become a face in sports is seen more than ever. The Asian Games, as a sports mega-event after the Olympics, is a good place to evaluate the success of the sports programs of Asian countries and competitors. These competitions, which are held every four years in various sports fields with the presence of the vast majority of Asian members of the National Olympic Committee, were held in Hangzhou, China, in 2023 with a year's delay.
The 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou came to an end while Iran's sports caravan took the 7th place. The purpose of this research is to analyze and investigate this position compared to the composition of the caravan sent to this tournament.
The research method is descriptive-analytical that the researchers have tried to describe the performance of the Iranian sports caravan in this period of competitions without prejudice. The available documents, composition of the convoy, medals won by the athletes of the convoy have been examined. The findings of the research show that tangible progress has not been achieved in winning sports titles compared to the previous periods. It is suggested that the country's sports policy makers pay special attention to championship sports in the team division, pay attention to women's sports and manage the dispatch of sports caravans in their agenda.
