Abstract
Introduction: Mental toughness and mindfulness are psychological characteristics of performance in stressful conditions that can improve a person's sense of control and self-confidence in motor performance conditions. Today, high psychological skills are one of the important pillars of success in sports fields. The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between mindfulness and mental toughness according to body type in men aged 20 to 30 years.
Method: For this purpose, 40 active men were selected by available sampling method and divided into two groups, mesomorph and ectomorph, according to Heath-Carter's body type. Then, they completed the sports mental toughness questionnaire and the sports mental awareness list. The Persian version of both evaluation tools used in the research literature has been validated and their reliability coefficient has been significant.
Results: The results of Pearson's correlation coefficient showed a significant relationship between the overall score of mindfulness and mental toughness in runners with a mesomorph body type (0.76), but a significant relationship was found between the score of mindfulness and mental toughness in active men with an ectomorph body type. Not possible (0.49).
Discussion and conclusion: These findings show that a better anthropometric state of the body is related to higher mindfulness in people. It is not important that the mesomorph body type leads to high psychological skills or that people with these psychological skills lead to sports activities; but in any case, active people often change towards the mesomorph body type in the long term, and this factor leads to better movement performance of the person as a result of this relationship.
