Abstract
Background and purpose: The majority of individuals with multiple sclerosis suffer from sleep disorders. women with multiple sclerosis are at increased risk to report poor sleep patterns and lower physical activity indices. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of physical activity on sleep quality and some physiological parameters related to sleep in women with multiple sclerosis.
Materials and method: 22 women with multiple sclerosis were randomly divided into two groups of 11 women physical activity and control. The subjects in the aerobic training group practiced three sessions every week for 8 weeks and each session lasted for 45 minutes Self-reported sleep parameters were obtained using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Physiological variables (TG, TC, LDL, and HDL) were also measured by blood sampling. Data were analyzed through Kolmogorov-Smirnov and t-test using SPSS 26.

Results: The results showed that after exercise intervention, the sleep quality was a significant improved in the physical activity group than control group (P=0.045). In addition, there was a significant improvement in the changes of TG (p=0.034), TC (p=0.017), LDL (p=0.006), and HDL (p=0.016) in the physical activity group. However, no relationship was observed between changes in sleep quality and changes in physiological variables related to sleep.

Conclusion: The results show a positive relationship of physical activity with sleep quality and some health parameters in individuals with MS. It can be concluded that 8 weeks of physical activity improves sleep quality along with some health parameters in the women with multiple sclerosis and will be useful as a complementary treatment method to improve the quality of sleep in women with MS.
