Abstract
Background: Playing is an important and influential factor in children's development. One of the types of games is Stickygym, which is particularly attractive for children, through which many physical activities can be strengthened in children. On the other hand, physical literacy is one of the most important indicators to understand children's health. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effect of Stickygym on physical literacy of fourth grade male students of Kamyaran.
Methods: thirty eligible subjects (10 years old) were chosen and randomly grouped into control group (n=15) and experimental group (n=15). Physical literacy was measured by the Canadian Physical Literacy Questionnaire. The experimental group performed Stickygym games for 6 weeks. Stickygym kit includes Hook & Loop strips, with two linear polyester strips being easily but firmly attached together. Trained instructors performed training sessions. In the end, Physical Literacy test was conducted again in person. Data analysis was done using Shapiro-Wilk, Levene and the analysis of covariance tests were with the significance level of 0.05 in SPSS 24.
Results: The results indicated that physical fitness and plank were significantly improved by Stickygym (p <0.05). Other findings showed that stickygym do not have a significant effect on understanding, knowledge, motivation, and self-confidence dimensions of physical literacy (p >0.05).
Conclusion: In general, it can be concluded that children's physical literacy can be improved through sticker games and could be used as a suitable intervention.
This play kit can be used by educators, parents and Physical education teachers for improving physical literacy in children
