Abstract
Background: CABG surgery has side effects for the patient's heart. Among the most important adverse effects after CABG surgery are heart rate irregularity and heart rate variability.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of long-term combined yoga and rehabilitation training on changes in some electrocardiogram indicators and heart rate variability in coronary artery patients after surgery.
Methods: In this semi-experimental study, 14 CABG patients were randomly divided into two rehabilitation groups (control N=7) and rehabilitation and yoga (experimental; N=7). After initial clinical evaluations, performing exercise test, measuring some ECG factors (QT, ST, QRS Amplitude(QRSA), PR), measuring HRV (SDNN, HF, LF, LF/HF), the subjects were refer to the rehabilitation department of Shahid Rajaei heart hospital of Tehran , and performed his training programs for eight weeks and three days per week( 1 hours /session), and the desired evaluations were repeated. Dependent t-test was used to perform intra-group changes and independent t-test was used to compare two groups at a significance level of 0.05.
Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference in SDNN in the experimental group (P=0.05) and in the control group in QT, QRSA, LF, and HF(p≤0.05). Between the experimental and control groups, a significant difference was observed only in HF (P= 0.030).
Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the combination of yoga exercises and rehabilitation has beneficial effects on some factors of heart rate variability that affect the autonomic system of the heart. By improving ECG and HRV indices, the mortality rate associated with heart rate changes and autonomic disorders decreases. On the other hand, other factors of heart rate and electrocardiogram were affected by rehabilitation programs alone, therefore, the combination of rehabilitation programs and yoga is suggested to POST CABG patients by increasing the period of yoga exercises according to studies.
