Investigating the motivation factors of active participation in physical education classes

Abstract
Background: The present research was conducted with the aim of investigating the motivational factors of active participation in the physical education classroom in secondary school students.
Methodology: This research was carried out using the Multi Grounded Theory, which is a combination of two qualitative methods, Meta-Synthesis and Grounded theory. The Meta-Synthesis refers to the process of conducting research with the aim of systematically and formally reviewing the findings in the report of studies (Sendlovski et al., 2007). By using the method of library studies, various documents (books, articles, thesis and web pages) were reviewed from 2000-2022. To find Persian resources in internal databases uses:Elmnet, SID, Irandoc, and to find resources in external databases uses: Science Direct, Scholar Google, Web of Science, ProQuest, Emerald. The process of searching and reviewing sources was done using the Prisma flowchart. Finally, 15 scientific sources related to the research topic were included in the research.
Result: In order to verify validity, the opinions of two experts familiar with the research field were used. Internal reliability was obtained using Kappa index equal to 0.674 (p<0.001). In the next stage, foundational data theory has been used. In this stage, 11 in-depth interviews with experts and secondary school teachers were used to collect data, and the interviews continued until theoretical saturation was reached. The codes resulting from the meta-synthesis and interview stage included 71 open codes, which were converted into 11 central codes. In the selective coding stage, all the obtained codes were placed in five main groups, which are curriculum, communication, motivational atmosphere, sociability and individual factors.
Conclusion: This Factors play an important role in the formation of the classroom environment to strengthen intrinsic motivation, strengthen students' understanding of competence, and increase their enjoyment of movement and exploring physical activities.
