The existence of self-esteem and mental health is important in learning and increasing the working capacity of employees, and on the other hand, the effect of exercise on the self-esteem and general health of people is very basic and important. The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationship between self-esteem and mental health in athletes and non-athletes of Shiraz University employees. The research method is descriptive and survey type. For this purpose, 278 sample people were randomly selected from the statistical population using Morgan's table. A standard public health questionnaire including 28 questions was used to collect data. Content validity was used to measure the instrument's validity. Cornbrash’s alpha method has been used for reliability. Data analysis was done at two levels of descriptive and inferential statistics (regression test and t test) using SPSS18 software. The obtained results indicated that the regression R value (effect coefficient) between the two variables of physical health and self-esteem has an effect of 85% on self-esteem. There is a relationship between anxiety and self-esteem of Shiraz University athletic faculty members (r=0.29). As a result, there is a significant difference between athletes and non-athletes regarding the relationship between general health and self-esteem. Physical health has been recognized by researchers as a factor affecting self-esteem. Which is consistent with the research background. The present article showed that a significant difference was observed between two groups of athletes and non-athletes with different physical fitness that affected self-esteem.
