Abstract
Diabetes is considered one of the most significant health problems in all societies. Exercise and medication, especially supplements, are among the best approaches to improving the condition in individuals with diabetes. The aim of the present research was to investigate the effect of aerobic exercise combined with the consumption of symbiotic supplements on LDL levels in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes. In this semi-experimental study, 13 postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes, with an average age of 55.46 ± 7.79 years and a body mass index of 28.72 ± 5.86 kg/m², participated based on fasting blood sugar levels. Aerobic exercise for a duration of 12 weeks (3 sessions per week), with each session consisting of a 10-minute warm-up, 25 minutes of activity at an intensity of 40 to 45 percent of the maximum heart rate. Every two weeks, the duration and intensity of the activity were incrementally increased by 5 minutes and 5 percent, respectively. Each session concluded with a 5-minute cool-down. Participants also took one capsule of synbiotic supplement (containing 10^9×1 CFU) one hour after lunch as their daily dose. At the beginning and end of the study, blood sampling was conducted. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to assess the normal distribution of data, and paired t-test was employed to examine within-group differences. The findings indicate a significant reduction in serum LDL levels after 12 weeks of aerobic exercise + synbiotic supplement intervention (P=0.005). Considering the effectiveness of aerobic exercise and symbiotic supplementation, these interventions can be utilized to improve LDL levels in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes.
