Abstract
In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the significance of developing psychological skills in athletes, as they constitute a fundamental element in achieving athletic success and advancement. These skills empower athletes to adapt more effectively to competitive environments, even in high-stress and anxiety-inducing situations. Notably, several extensively studied variables include group cohesion, self-control, anxiety, stress, emotional state, motivation, activation level, attention and self-confidence.
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between the sports psychological profile, competitive anxiety and self-confidence in teenage footballers.
The purpose of this study was to analyse the correlation between sports psychological profiles, competitive sports, and self-confidence of football players. Additionally, potential differences based on age group and competitive level were explored. This study included 330 participants who were divided into two groups: Group 1, 13-14 years old and Group 2, 14-15 years old. Data were collected using the Psychological Questionnaire of Sports Performance (IPED), Sports Competition Status Questionnaire Revised 2 (CSAI 2R). The findings showed a positive relationship between sports psychological profile and self-confidence. On the contrary, competitive rivalry showed negative relationships with sports psychological profile and self-confidence. In addition, in the changes analysed and analysed for a higher age category and a higher competitive level, no significant difference is observed based on field positions. These results focus on the interaction of psychological factors in the performance of football players and on players based on their categories (age and level). This makes competitive scenarios to carefully examine these changes in athletes to better understand their profile and enable targeted interventions aimed at their psychological resources.
