Abstract
Background and Purpose
Physical education in schools provides ample opportunities for students to engage in regular physical activity. However, the lack of participation among children and adolescents in these activities underscores the need for effective physical education programs. Creating enjoyable experiences during physical activity is crucial because active children are more likely to transition into active adults. This study aimed to investigate the influence of music on the enjoyment of physical activity among basketball student athletes aged 16 to 18 years.
Methodology:
An internal randomized experimental design was implemented, involving 20 basketball student athletes aged 16–18 years. The students were randomly divided into two groups, with one group initially exercising with music and then without music, and the other group following the reverse order. Enjoyment of physical activity was measured using a physical activity enjoyment questionnaire.
Findings:
The results revealed that music had a positive and significant impact on enjoyment of physical activity (t= -6.43, p< 0.001). The average enjoyment of physical activity with music (4.44) was higher than without music (3.61).
Discussion and Conclusion
The implications of these findings are significant, suggesting that the incorporation of music into basketball training sessions can be a powerful strategy to enhance enjoyment of physical activity. Beyond basketball, the integration of diverse fitness programs with music could serve as a multifaceted approach to elevate student enjoyment and increase overall physical activity levels. Physical education teachers are encouraged to embrace music as an engaging tool during training sessions to enrich the enjoyment of physical activity. Furthermore, future research endeavors should expand their scope by incorporating larger sample sizes and exploring diverse age groups to provide more comprehensive insights into the potential impact of music on enjoyment of physical activity.
