Abstract
Abstract
This article examines the role of sports diplomacy in the academic environment and its effect on strengthening relations between universities. Through sports activities, universities can provide a bridge to create international interactions and promote scientific cooperation. Sport diplomacy has made great strides in achieving international, regional and local unity, but little is known about its effects in developing countries. Sports acts as a political and diplomatic field where politics ironically uses sports and vice versa. When relations between two countries are weak, sports can be used as a tool to increase exposure, or if relations begin to improve, sports can also help create and accelerate diplomatic progress. Based on this, the increasing importance of sports diplomacy also confirms the transformation of traditional diplomacy into new diplomacy. Sports diplomacy is often reduced to actions focused on countries. However, after the Cold War, international relations and diplomacy have expanded and various roles have played a prominent role. This is especially true in increasing diplomatic relations in the field of sports. The classification and importance of other actors are less researched and most of the literature focuses on the development of new and different forms of diplomacy and diplomatic tools. This research has been done with the method of documentary studies. For this purpose, this research first explains the concept of sports diplomacy and its importance in the academic environment. Then, the role of students as social representatives in creating communication bridges and facilitating the process of sports diplomacy is examined. This article also deals with the successful experiences of universities in using sports for international interactions and examines examples of scientific collaborations resulting from these interactions. One of the most important issues is the relationship between sports cultures and values, which must be carefully explained . In the end, the article presents suggestions and solutions for promoting sports diplomacy in universities in order to improve scientific cooperation and international interactions, and discusses the importance of this path for continuous development in the field of higher education.
