Abstract
One of the most important problems of people with cerebral palsy (CP) is movement limitation, inflexibility and spasticity. This semi-experimental research investigated the effect of the selected exercises intervention including a variety of strength, flexibility and muscle endurance training on the range of motion (ROM) and independence in daily activities living (ADL) and instrumental daily activity living (IADL).
Samples included adults with CP in a training rehabilitation-institute in Mashhad. sample size were 45) experimental: 24, control; 21) (both sexes, age>20), based on the literature and G-Power software estimation to measuring the rom of the joints, a goniometer was used. Also activity daily living and instrumental activity daily living questionnaires were used to examine the rate of independence living.
The results of analysis of variance with repeated measures showed that the main effect of stage in ROM of the joints was not significant(p>0.05); However, the interaction effect of the stage in the group (P=0.006) and the effect of the group (P=0.032) were significant; .The results of the test in ROM of the left joints showed that the main effect of the stage(P=0.887) and the main effect of the group(P=0.367) were not significant; However, a significant effect was observed in the interaction between stage and group(P=0.004).The results of analysis of variance for both of IADL and ADL showed that the main effect of the stage was not significant (P>0.05). Nevertheless, the interaction effect of the stage in the group was significant (P<0.05). In addition, no significant difference was observed between the groups (P>0.05).
According to the results the ROM of the experimental-group improved compared with the control -group. Also it was shown that after the intervention period, the experimental group was more independent in performing some daily activities and instrumental daily activity living. It seems that participating in the regular physical activities including strength and flexibility exercise can improve the mobility and quality of life in people with CP.
